The chance the above photo ends up on our wall is pretty high. I love Switzerland. Oh, you already knew that? Well it’s still my favorite. It was a long train ride from Paris to Bern, followed by an almost two hour drive, but we made it to Gstaad on Monday afternoon. We did another Air B&B rental and this time we were actually renting a room in someone’s house. The couple was around our age and really nice; they are trying to start up an ice cream business in the area and we got to try some – it was pretty delicious.
When I was in Switzerland for Desalpe, I picked up a travel book for the whole country at the local tourism office. At first I was going to plan our trip to a city, but decided that’d we’d rather be in the mountains (…obviously) and was paging through some pictures of mountain towns when I came across Gstaad. It looked awesome and I started looking for a place there. Turns out, Gstaad is basically the Aspen of Switzerland. It wasn’t super busy since it’s a ski town and it’s the off-season, and now we also need to go back during ski season, but it was so so beautiful. It’s a really small town but there are two Michelin-starred restaurants there; we didn’t eat at either, though. We had amazing views of the Bernese Alps, spotted a Bernese mountain dog puppy, there are hiking trails everywhere, and of course the cows. I might need to become a farmer.
We spent most of this leg of the trip relaxing. We walked around the little town, went for a hike, cooked breakfast and dinner, and took lots of naps.
There are a few gondolas in town that you can take to the top and to more hiking trails, but they were extremely expensive (30 Euro a person) so we decided to skip that. But if we had – we would have gone to the top of the local glacier. You can ski almost year round on the glacier. Switzerland – I’ll see you again someday soon.
