Week 2 Highlights/Lowlights

I can’t believe I am already halfway through the pastry/cooking part of my trip!  I am definitely ready for a weekend, but before I head off to the mountains, I wanted to recap the week with a few highlights/lowlights.  This week:

  • Made three cakes and decorated them.  The most intricate cakes I’ve ever made.  If you have a birthday coming up (Andrew) – don’t expect quite this level of decoration!

  • Prepared and made snails.  The preparation was so gross – I’ll spare you the details, but they started out alive – that I didn’t even want to try them.  So.. I didn’t.

  • Made octopus pie – it was surprisingly a lot better than I thought and the octopus was cooked way better than I have had it before when I’ve tried it at restaurants at home.
  • Ate a whole cake in less than 6 hours.  I should probably start testing my blood sugar because I’m pretty sure I’m going to be diabetic after this.

  • Ran to the top of a “mountain” in town with my camera and took some awesome sunset photos.
  • Started getting a little bit homesick.  France is so awesome, but there are definitely some things (besides people, obviously) that I miss and can’t wait to get back to!  They include: good beer, chips and salsa, good internet, comfortable beds, salty/spicy food (everything here is SO creamy), fall weather.
  • Went and explored downtown Agde – found out there isn’t a lot to explore!  There was a really cool medieval wall and church, though.

Hope your weekend is filled with good beer, salty food, fast internet, and crisp fall weather!  I can’t wait to share my weekend plans/photos with you!
